I’ve been a student of Thiago Barbosa for over 5 years now and I can honestly say he is one of the most caring and passionate Martial Arts Instructors I’ve ever had. I’ve been practicing Martial Arts my entire life, Karate, Kick boxing, Taekwondo and now since the past 9 years, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. So I think I’m more than qualified to make the statement “Newmarket BJJ is an amazing Martial Arts Academy”.
So what makes them different you ask? Just walk in and right away you’ll notice how clean everything is. The training facility is beautiful and every detail has been taken into account from the Sub-flooring under the mats, the privacy walls in the change rooms all the way down to the trim finishes used through the hallway and doors.
Professor Thiago has competed at the highest levels in the world having won a lot of medals. His commitment to competition alone is to be admired and respected. But that’s not what makes Newmarket BJJ unique. Just walk in and you’ll notice right away the bond all the students have with each other. Gym owners will talk about building a family/community but this place IS actually that.
I’ve sustained a lot of injuries over the years preventing me from training hard. I can honestly tell you that I would have quit Jujitsu along time ago but Newmarket BJJ is one of the biggest reasons why I continue on despite my chronic pain. You want to belong to a community, Newmarket BJJ is the place for you.

No question about it, Newmarket BJJ is the absolute BEST in the area! A lot of heart and love went into this facility when it was under construction and you can FEEL that when you come into the gym!
Thiago and Camila have created this amazing place that is very family oriented, while still providing a high level of instruction and customer service in a nice, clean facility with top notch amenities in an extremely functional layout.
There are plenty of shoe cubbies for people to put their shoes into in the entryway when you walk in, and a nice lounge area by the front desk and office. Beyond that, you walk through a hallway where there are 2 bathrooms, 2 private showers, and 2 large changerooms with benches and plenty of hooks and shelves for everyone before you enter the large mat space at the back. There is a second good sized mat space on the 2nd level as well so there is plenty of space to train and learn, and become the best version of yourself.
This isn't just an ordinary gym. It is a 2nd home for many of us. And you will feel the same when you walk into that front door and feel like you are finally Welcome Home!

The facility is impeccable, catering to both kids and adults, beginners and advanced students. The team’s professionalism shines through in their friendly and caring approach making it a welcoming place for anyone seeking to learn Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. I was in town for the holidays and found this gym on Google. So glad I did.
The normal schedule was disrupted between Christmas and New year but they invited me come to the open mats. Everyone there was welcoming and invited me to roll. I was pleasently surprised by the high level of jujitsu. Afterwards they invited to come back for class.

THIAGO is a world class instructor as well his team of other instructors from kids classes to adult classes these people know Jiu Jitsu at the highest level.
I'm a 65 year old most of the other members are much younger but they treat me as one of their own I never feel out of place.
